12So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12 NKJV)
AI few years back I had the privilege of going on a missions trip to the beautiful Carribean island of Grenada. Our team was there to rebuild homes and lives that had been damaged as a result of Hurricane Ivan. While I was there I was asked at the last minute to speak at a local church in the area where we were ministering. The night before I felt the Lord leading me to one of my favorite Psalms.....chapter 90. This is the only psalm written by Moses, who was called “the man of God” in Deuteronomy 33:1. Although Moses is not necessarily known for being a song writer like King David was, this was not the only song that He wrote. We read about two other diddies that he penned, with the help of the Holy Spirit of course, in Exodus 15 & Deuteronomy 32. In this particular psalm the children of Israel are complaining about God’s judgment and the brevity of life. Being in a place that has just recently been ripped apart in just a matter of hours by a very powerful hurricane certainly gives you a good perspective on how fragile life can be. But even in the midst of their sorrow the people of God in Grenada acknowledged the security they have in the Lord and prayed for renewal, just like the children of Israel did in Psalm 90. What a beautiful parralel. I think Moses gives us here a pretty good roadmap for how to thrive in this life instead of just trying to survive. Psalm 90 is basically divided into three sections. As you read that Psalm meditate on these three actions steps:
1) Every Day I Need to RUN TO THE PRESENCE of God (vs. 1-2)
2) Every Day I Need to REMEMBER THE BREVITY of Life (vs. 3-12)
3) Every Day I Need to RELY ON THE POWER of God (vs. 13-17)
